Medical Genome Science Program (MGSP)

Koichi Ito
Graduate School of Frontier Sciences
Department of Computational Biology and Medical Sciences Professor
Rapid Progress in genome science has helped to establish a new basis for understanding life and human beings, and in turn has brought about a revolution in life science. A big wave of innovation is also expected in medicine and therapeutics. There is growing demand for researchers looking to make a breakthrough in those fields, and their training is thought to be an urgent task.
This program is intended for science and engineering students and aims to develop professionals in interdisciplinary fields who can contribute to bridging a gap between basic research and clinical application, i.e. Translational Research, based on the advanced genome researches.
Course subjects include research and medical ethics lectures, the practice of instructional experience and international experiences in addition to a clinical-site experience course that is realized through collaboration with the IMSUT (the Institute of Medical Science, the University of Tokyo) Hospital. A certificate of completion is issued at the time of the graduation.
