Purpose of industry-academia collaboration on "Gerontology"
In the latter half of the twentieth century, Japan achieved a phenomenal extension in life expectancy by 30 years and became the country with the world's longest life expectancy. Moreover, the population of Japan will be ahead of the rest of the world in the next two decades, with its rapidly aging population including older people over 75 who are doubling (+10 million).
The current social system and living environment, which was created in the pyramid era, with many young generations cannot meet the needs of such a super-aged society. New needs create new industries.
This project is based on the activities of the consortium conducted in fiscal 2009-10 and the subsequent industry-academia collaboration activities, in which individuals and corporations who support this agreement alternately cooperate to establish a society that is safe and has vibrant longevity. Such an innovative establishment warrants plans that are oriented towards industry-academia-government collaboration.
As of the end of December 2019, 33 companies had joined. Three annual plenary sessions had been conducted and seven Special Interest Groups had organized study sessions on various issues: electric, automotive, food, telecommunications, pharmaceuticals, housing, real estate, finance, environment, surveys, etc. They participate and work on industry-academia collaboration for innovation in the super-aging society.
