The University of °®¶¹´«Ã½Statement on Diversity & Inclusion
The University of °®¶¹´«Ã½has adopted the University of °®¶¹´«Ã½Statement on Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) as guidance to all those involved in the university’s activities to encourage the creation of a fair and pluralistic society that respects and embraces diversity. A briefing paper accompanying and explaining the D&I Statement has also been released.

Diversity & Inclusion at UTokyo
Deepening and advancing our understanding of D&I at UTokyo
In AY2023, U°®¶¹´«Ã½started holding D&I seminars for the executives involved in the decision-making processes of the university and its organizations, aiming to ensure that awareness and understanding are shared across all our members and to promote behavioral change regarding D&I as an important pillar of U°®¶¹´«Ã½Compass.
In AY2024, D&I seminars were held for senior executives and administrative managers. The sessions on September 10th, 2024 and March 4th, 2025 were for executives and deans, while the session on September 27th, 2024 was for the heads of the departments of the Administration Bureau and administrative organizational heads. The purpose of these seminars was to have the participants revisit D&I, deepen their understanding, and raise their awareness of it.

The University of °®¶¹´«Ã½- Asian University for Women Joint Summer Program and Symposium
The University of °®¶¹´«Ã½is hosting a summer program in collaboration with Bangladesh’s (AUW). The program is titled “Body, Environment and Sustainability.”
U°®¶¹´«Ã½offers a number of short-term programs for exceptional students from all around the world. In the UTokyo-AUW Joint Summer Program, students from Bangladesh’s AUW can participate alongside U°®¶¹´«Ã½students.

The joint summer program with the Asian University for Women, which began on July 29, concluded on August 8.
On the final day, students presented their individual learning outcomes through a poster session.
The symposium featured a greeting from President Fujii, followed by a keynote speech and a panel discussion led by the artist Sputniko!, bringing the 11-day program to a close.

#WeChange UTokyo
The University of °®¶¹´«Ã½has launched measures to nurture female leaders. In addition to working to raise the awareness of all members of the University, including faculty members and students, the University aims to double the rate of increase in the number of female faculty members over the past 10 years. It is expected that 300 of the 1,200 new professors and associate professors will be females.

The University of °®¶¹´«Ã½has promoted support for persons with disability and gender equality centered on the Disability Services Office and the Office for Gender Equality, which were established in 2002 and 2006, respectively, with a commitment to creating an inclusive campus. Accordingly, the University adopted the University of °®¶¹´«Ã½Statement on Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) in 2022 and established the Guidelines for Students on Diversity of Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity in 2023 as well as implementing other measures.
This new center, also called “IncluDE,” has been established by integrating these two offices with the aim of strengthening research functions in relevant fields and promoting DEI (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion) activities more comprehensively. Through its efforts to connect various activities and research based on challenges faced by those in need and to promote gender equality and accessibility, IncluDE will endeavor to coproduce academic knowledge that will make it possible to realize a society where no one is left behind.
